Amec is to sell its Spie division, and split intelf into two separate companies. Rumour has it that Amec might be tempted to sell these new divisions. Below are ¾«¶«Ó°ÊÓ’s suggestions for potential buyers | |||
Division | What is it? | Current status | Potential suitors |
Energy and process industries | This division will be heavily exposed to the oil and gas markets | To be retained as a quoted company. It is thought Amec views the business as its future | Unlikely to sell, but American firms such as Fluor and Halliburton may be interested |
UK infrastructure | A UK construction business that will include the facilities management, design and PPP investment arms | Will be set up as a quoted company, but it has been speculated that Amec is willing to sell it | Spanish firms, such as Ferrovial, the parent of Amey, and German groups, such as Hochtief, see PFI as a growth opportunity |
Spie | The France-based services division, which does Amec’s construction work across Europe | Up for sale – Amec says it anticipates getting “a significant premium to book value†| French groups Bouygues, Cegelec, Eiffage and Vinci have been tipped. Spie bosses favour a buyout |
