Four British firms have scooped contracts on a 拢9bn rail link in Taiwan, one of the largest transport schemes in the world.
Citex and RMJM are part of consortiums that will build the Taiwan High Speed Rail Link. Engineers Mott Connell and Maunsell are also working on the mega project.
Citex has been appointed by Japanese joint venture Evergreen Construction-Shimizu Corporation to provide contract consultancy and programming on 28.5 km of viaducts around Tainan.
RMJM, appointed by a consortium led by Japanese engineer Heigo Shen, will design sections of track, bridges and a 33 000 m2 station at Taoyuan, south of Chiang Kai Shek Airport.
Managing director of RMJM Hong Kong Ian Butler said: "It is a huge interchange like Waterloo station."
The rail link will run 330 km from Taipei to the south of the island. It will include 11 stations and 330 km of embankments, viaducts and tunnels. The stations are due to start on site in 2003.
The Taiwanese government is contributing 拢2.2bn to the project.
