Brighton distinguishes itself from the kiss-me-quick, donkey-riding image of more traditional resorts by being more of a city by the sea. The past five years have seen an ongoing programme to transform the seafront with a mix of public and private funding. One major development in the early stages of construction is a high-class residential project on the seafront called the Van Allen ¾«¶«Ó°ÊÓ, designed by PRC Fewster.

The Moshi Moshi sushi bar is an example of the imaginative approach that gives the town an edge. Technically, the project is a refurbishment, but in reality it is almost a new building that will occupy a key spot in Brighton’s historic Lanes area. Architect De Rijke Marsh Morgan wanted to turn the site, which had seen a series of commercial failures, into an exciting attraction that would enliven the desolate, grey public square it occupies.
