Ironically, Jarvis had a good month, but the other top spots are taken by French, Swedish and Australian firms.
overseas firms snapped up three of the top four spots in April. Bouygues headed the field with a 拢311m contract for the Home Office's HQ 鈥� three six-storey buildings linked by walkways that will include offices, apartments and retail space.

In second is Jarvis, thanks to four contracts worth 拢208.8m, and Skanska takes bronze, also with four contracts worth 拢197m. Australian firm Multiplex signed three contracts, bringing in 拢182.3m.

HOK stormed to the top of the architects' annual table thanks to 11 contracts worth 拢581.3m, and Twijnstra Gudde UK, a Dutch-based practice, is a shock second place. The Ministry of Defence has taken over from supermarket giant J Sainsbury as the industry's top client.

How the tables work

To qualify for the tables, companies must have been identified on two or more projects fitting the criteria below in the past 12 months. Projects must:
  • be of precisely calculated or confirmed value
  • have reached the main contract stage
  • be valued at 1m or more
  • be in the UK.
Residential, civil engineering or overseas contracts are excluded. Student accommodation is included.
