In a move set to defy the wider downturn in the housing sector, Pidgley and three other directors are set to receive shares worth a combined 拢60m.

Finance director Rob Perrins will get 拢12m and two other directors, Tony Carey and Greg Fry, will get 拢9m and 拢6m respectively.

Last month Berkeley announced it would defer a final 300p of a 1,200p payout to shareholders so it could take advantage of cheap land prices.
